Our current view of the service

Dates of the assessment were 29 September 2025 and 9 October 2025. St Lukes Care Home is a care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care. At the time of this assessment 25 people were living at the home The assessment was carried out because CQC had received some recent concerns in relation to staffing levels, people’s personal hygiene and food and fluid intake. We found the provider did not always work well with people to understand and manage risks. We identified some people’s needs were not always met in respect of management of their skin integrity, continence care and nutrition and hydration; however, we found no impact to people. This had been identified in audits carried out by the provider in June 2025, but the same concerns were identified in our assessment. This put people at risk of potential harm to their health and wellbeing. The provider assessed and managed the risk of infection. The provider did not always make sure medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, however, we did not find harm to people. Safeguarding events were logged, referred, investigated, and responded to. The provider did not always have clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability or good governance. People told us there were not enough staff to support people. People and relatives told us that staff were kind and caring and respected their wishes and choices.

During our assessment we spoke with 3 people and 5 relatives. We received mixed feedback from people when we asked if they felt safe. People told us they did not think there were enough staff on duty. One person told us “Residents are in the lounge, but nobody is watching them”. People told us that they felt able to raise any concerns with staff and felt the service was responsive to any issues raised. We received mixed feedback from people in relation to the food and nutrition. Some people were happy with the food while others felt the food choices could be improved. One person said, “Well it’s not good really, there is no choice, it’s always soup and bread or toast at teatime, they never change the menu, the food is ok but not to my choice”. During our assessment we got mixed feedback from people when we asked if they were involved in their care plan. Comments included “Yes we had a meeting about [relatives] care needs before they moved in” and “no I haven’t seen [relative] care plan”. People told us they felt the environment was to a good standard and clean. People told us staff were kind and caring. One person said, “Yes these [staff] are very caring and kind, we have lots of fun, they even know if I am poorly before I say anything”. People told us they felt meaningful activities were now taking place. People we spoke with told us they are asked for feedback. People told us that since the new manager had started, improvements had started to take place.
