During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last inspection in January 2014 we found that the registered provider had failed to notify the commission without delay of incidents which had occurred whilst carrying out the regulated activity or as a consequence of carrying out the regulated activity.

The provider had also failed to notify the commission of the absence of the registered manager who had not attended the location for three months.

The provider was required to submit a plan detailing the action they would take to ensure compliance with this standard and the date at which they would be compliant. The provider told us in their plan that they would be compliant with these standards by 1 June 2014.

Since the last inspection the commission has been notified that the registered manager had left and a de registration process has commenced.

At this inspection we spoke with the practice manager, area manager and reviewed the actions they had taken to ensure that future events would be notified to the commission as required. We found that the provider had taken sufficient action to address the areas of non-compliance.

30 January 2014

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six patients and observed one consultation. Patients told us they were now happy with the service provided. One commented 'I now see the same dentist and they are very good'. Another patient told us 'I came in as an emergency and they told me what I needed to have done ' I'm back today for treatment'. Following treatment they stated they were 'very happy' with the treatment they had received. Patients told us treatments were always explained to them and they received a written report of any treatment required. All said they found it easy to get an appointment when they wanted one and were usually seen at their appointment time.

Patients who used the service understood the treatment choices available to them and received written information about treatment and costs. They experienced effective, safe and appropriate care and treatment which met their needs and protected their rights. The provider had all the necessary systems in place which ensured patients were cared for in a clean and hygienic environment. Patients were cared for by staff who had either completed relevant training or were undertaking ongoing training. Staff were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard. The quality of the service patients received was regularly assessed and monitored with action taken when audits had identified specific concerns.

However, the provider has failed to inform the commission of significant events which they are required by law to notify us about.
