Date of assessment 04 to 31 March 2025. Henning Hall is a care home with nursing for 60 people, some of whom may be living with dementia. The inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service died. This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken. As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident. However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the monitoring and management of people’s deteriorating health needs and learning from incidents. This inspection examined those risks. At the time of our assessment, 50 people were living at the service. The last rating for this service was good (published 31 March 2023). At this inspection we found the service remained good.
We found the provider had a proactive culture of safety. Staff listened to concerns about safety, investigated, and reported safety events. Lessons were usually learnt to identify and embed good practice. Managers had reviewed procedures to embed good practice following the specific incident. Regular staff meetings were held and had been increased with lessons learnt discussions included. Staff told us they felt able to raise any concerns with managers. Systems had been reviewed and actions implemented to ensure information was shared with and followed by staff. Staff provided care to meet people’s needs that was safe, supportive, and enabled people to do the things that mattered to them. However, aspects of recording relating to the management of risks needed to be more robust. People’s care plans included detailed information about their preferences and how to support them to achieve their identified outcomes. Staff kept people’s care plan under review. The provider and registered manager had a range of quality monitoring processes in place, which had identified some areas for ongoing improvement.
