All Inspections

21 February 2014

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service on the day of our inspection, observed from an observation room how care was being delivered and looked at the records of two people who used the service. We spent time speaking with all of the staff who were working in the service. People told us, "The staff are very kind and good; they take their time to explain everything to me and my wife.' Another person told us, "I had a lot of problems getting here today but actually not the fault of the staff, they have been very attentive and told us what to expect.' A staff member told us, 'Our staff are really good here. They often help people fill forms and reassure people not to worry.' Another staff member told us, 'We have an obligation to ensure that the people have met the criteria and their clinical details match the need for the scan'.

We saw records that people who used the service had given consent to the procedure being carried out. We observed staff from an observation room talking with people who had to be scanned. Staff told us, 'X goes through the consent with them; they have to sign it and then X and I double check it before we inject.' This meant that the provider had suitable arrangements in place for obtaining, and acting in accordance with, the consent of people who used the service.

Staff were able to explain to us measures put in place to ensure the safety and suitability of equipment. We saw records that regular checks were carried out on the equipment to ensure that they were safe and suitable for use. We were told that all paper records were scanned and saved on the electronic data based. We observed that the records were accurate and appropriate to the procedure they had received.
