Date of assessment: 26 January to 17 February 2026. Moorland Gardens Care Home is a residential care home with nursing provision. The service supports older people, including those living with dementia, physical disabilities and nursing needs. At the time of our assessment, there were 63 people living at the service.
We identified 4 breaches of the legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment, safeguarding, dignity, and governance.
Safeguarding concerns had not always been identified or reported. Incidents where people experienced emotional distress, were not always recognised, appropriately documented or reviewed to inform learning. People’s care plans and risk assessments were not always accurate or detailed enough, this meant staff did not consistently have the guidance they needed to support people safely. Equipment related risks and environmental issues were not always well managed. Staff did not always follow safe moving and handling practices, and medicines were not always managed safely. Governance processes were not sufficiently robust. Leaders had not identified several concerns we found during the assessment, including gaps in documentation, incident management and environmental safety.
However, staff were recruited safely and told us they felt able to approach leaders and raise concerns. The service worked with external professionals and sought medical advice appropriately. The provider was receptive to our feedback and took immediate action during the assessment.
In instances where CQC has decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
