Our view of the service

Barn Park Residential Home is a care home without nursing. The service provides support to older people, people living with dementia and people requiring reablement. The service is based in a large house; a single story modern extension has been built for people requiring reablement. Bedrooms in the main house covered 3 floors reached by a stair lift.

Our visit was unannounced and took place between 21 to 30 January 2025. The assessment was to follow up on previous enforcement action to make improvements to the service linked to safeguarding, safe care and treatment and good governance.

Since the last inspection in January 2024, a new manager had been appointed. After the inspection, they submitted an application to register as a manager with CQC, which was approved.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people living at the home and 14 relatives as part of our assessment to gain their feedback on the service. People were positive about their care, for example one person said, “‘They make you feel at home here… Very happy here.” We also used the Short Observational Framework for assessment (SOFI) during our visit. SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who are not able to comment specifically on the service.

We spent time in the communal lounge and the dining room, as well as visiting people in their rooms. Staff were attentive to people’s needs including changes in mood or body language. Our observations confirmed staff worked well together for the benefit of the people living at the home. Relatives were happy with the quality of care and support provided by staff.
