The Hamiltons provides personal care for up to 18 people. The service has bedrooms and communal rooms including bathrooms to the ground floor and to the second floor further bedrooms and bathrooms are situated. It has a passenger lift between the floors and a stair case at each side of the building for easy access between both floors.

We found the following examples of good practice.

The premises were clean and well-maintained. Staff followed cleaning schedules to ensure all areas of the home were regularly cleaned, including high touch areas such as door handles and light switches.

Staff had received recent training in infection prevention and control, including how to put on and take off their personal protective equipment (PPE) in a safe way.

We saw staff changed PPE when appropriate, and staff regularly washed and sanitised their hands.

Tests for COVID-19 were being carried out in line with good practice guidance, where possible.

Visits to the home were restricted at the time of this inspection, in accordance with local infection control guidance. During this time staff were supporting people to stay in contact with their relatives and friends via the telephone, or via on-line video calls.

Further information is in the detailed findings below.
