During an assessment under our new approach

The Law Medical Group Practice is an NHS GP practice which provides primary care services to patients in North West London. We carried out an announced assessment of one quality statement, equity of access on 8 March 2024. Overall the practice is rated as good, with all key questions rated as good. We carried out the assessment as part of our work to understand how practices are working to try to meet demands for access and to better understand the experiences of people who use services and providers. We recognise the work that GP practices have been engaged in to continue to provide safe, quality care to the people they serve. We know staff are carrying this out whilst the demand for general practice remains exceptionally high, with more appointments being provided than ever. However, access to general practice remains a concern for people. Note: The provider of the service The Law Medical Group Practice (1-4152681994) operates 2 locations registered with the Care Quality Commission, both called The Law Medical Group Practice; Wrottesley Road (1-6083860111) and Harrow Road (1-6088839608). Both these locations share a joint Organisational Data Service code (ODS code - a unique organisational code created by the Organisation Data Service within NHS Digital and used to identify organisations across health and social care). As a result of this the performance data relating to the GP Patient Survey used in this assessment is composed of information relating to both registered locations. This assessment is for the Harrow Road practice and where possible, CQC have worked with the Harrow Road location to extract individual unvalidated/unverified data for that location

29 May 2019

During a routine inspection

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at The Law Medical Group Practice on 29 May 2019 as part of our inspection programme.

We based our judgement of the quality of care at this service on a combination of:

  • what we found when we inspected
  • information from our ongoing monitoring of data about services and
  • information from the provider, patients, the public and other organisations.

We have rated this practice as good overall.

We found that:

  • The practice provided care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm. Although, improvements were needed in relation to the monitoring of some high-risk medicines.
  • Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.
  • Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.
  • The practice organised and delivered services to meet patients’ needs. Although some patients stated there were delays in receiving an appointment.
  • The way the practice was led and managed promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centre care.

Whilst we found no breaches of regulations, the provider should:

  • Improve the auditing and monitoring for patients on high risk medicines.
  • Improve the monitoring and security of blank prescriptions stored in consulting rooms.
  • Ensure staff vaccination is maintained in line with current guidance.
  • Continue to review and improve patient satisfaction with their overall experience of making an appointment.

Details of our findings and the evidence supporting our ratings are set out in the evidence tables.
