Date of inspection: 13 May to 5 June 2026. Geraint House residential care home provides personal care and accommodation to people with mental health needs.
Not everyone who used the service received the regulated activity ‘accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care’. CQC only assess the care and support provided to people who receive a regulated activity. At the time of our assessment 3 people were being supported with a regulated activity.
At our previous inspection theproviderwas in breach of the legal regulation in relation to governance. We issued a warning notice and told the provider they must take action to improve. We carried out this assessment to review whether the provider had complied with the warning notice and had made the required improvements.
Improvements were found at this assessment, and theproviderwas no longer in breach of this regulation.
This inspection covered all 5 key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
At the time of the assessment, the provider was undertaking significant fire safety improvements and had plans in place to redecorate the premises. While some areas of the environment required improvement to fully meet expected standards of decoration and maintenance, the provider had identified these areas and had clear plans for redecoration and refurbishment.
People told us they enjoyed living at the service and had developed positive, caring relationships with staff. They were supported by a consistent, experienced, and competent staff team who had been recruited safely. People received personalised care that reflected their preferences and were encouraged to remain as independent as possible, including accessing and participating in hobbies and interests meaningful to them.
Staff understood their responsibilities to keep people safe from avoidable harm and demonstrated good awareness of risk. Medicines were managed safely, and staff received appropriate training and ongoing support to carry out their roles effectively. Staff spoke positively about their work, were motivated to achieve good outcomes for people, and expressed pride in the service.
People and staff provided consistently positive feedback about the management team. They described managers as supportive, visible, and approachable, which contributed to a positive and open culture within the service.
