During a routine inspection

We visited the agency offices and met with the registered manager and business manager. We spoke on the telephone with three people who used the service, three relatives and two staff.

People told us staff were good at explaining what they were going to do and asked for their consent before they carried out any care tasks. One person said: 'They always check with me first before doing anything'.

People told us the service met their needs. People praised the staff highly and described them as 'very good' and said they were reliable. People praised the flexibility of the service and said staff would do everything they could to accommodate any changes. One person said: 'They're very good at juggling things around my hospital appointments.' Another person said: 'I've no problems with the care, they're so much better than the other care agency I had'.

We found satisfactory recruitment processes were in place. We reviewed three staff recruitment files and found appropriate checks had been carried out.

We found systems were in place to review the quality of the service provided. There was a complaints procedure in place. People we spoke with and their relatives told us they would raise any concerns or complaints directly with the manager. They told us they felt confident that any issues raised would be dealt with properly.

During a routine inspection

People we contacted told us they are very happy with the services provided. One person told us that the carers are 'wonderful' and nothing is to much trouble for them. The carers are always on time and are always polite and courteous. One relative told us that can relax and have piece of mind knowing that their mum is being cared for by carers who know what they are doing.

People we contacted told us they feel safe and well cared for. One person using the service told us that they have never had any problems or any reason to complain. Another told us that communication between them and the service is very good and they can contact the manager about anything.

One relative we contacted told us that the carers are very experienced and 'know what they are doing'. They went on to say that they are honest and trustworthy and are very good at their jobs.

People we contacted told us that the carers are very good and treat them with dignity and respect at all times. One relative told us that they had tried other organisations but they are 'very pleased that they found Phoenix' as they are 'excellent' and provide a wonderful service.

All the people using the service told us they feel safe and supported by the people caring for them. One person told us that they can trust the carers with anything they ask them to do. One relative said that the manager does spot checks to see that everything is alright and the carers are doing what they are supposed to do, however, they have never had any problems or reason to complain.
