The Beeches Medical Centre is situated at 20 Ditchfield Road, Widnes, WA8 8QS and is part of Halton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The practice website can be found at: www.thebeechesmedicalcentrewidnes.nhs.uk The practice has a General Medical Services (GMS) contract.

At this practice there are four GP partners (3 female, 1 male) one female salaried GP and a GP registrar, a nurse practitioner and two practice nurses. Clinicians are supported by a full-time practice manager and reception and administration staff.

The practice is registered by CQC to carry out the following regulated activities;

Diagnostic and screening procedures,

Maternity and midwifery services,

Surgical procedures,

Family planning

The Beeches Medical Centre is open from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday. The practice closes on one afternoon a month for training and educational purposes. The practice does not offer extended hours but does have access via a CCG initiative for a GP Extra service from 6.30pm until 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am until 12 noon at weekends. Appointments at the practice can be booked over the telephone, online or in person. Patients requiring a GP urgently are advised to contact the NHS 111 GP out of hours service.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection of The Beeches Medical Centre on 5 June 2018 as part of our inspection programme. The overall rating for the practice was good however due to shortfalls identified during the inspection the practice was found to be requires improvement for the safe domain. This inspection was carried out on 16 May 2019 to confirm that the practice had carried out their plan to meet the legal requirements in relation to the breach in regulation that we identified in our previous inspection on 5 June 2018. This report covers our findings in relation to those requirements and additional improvements made since our last inspection.

Overall the practice is now rated as Good. The population groups are also rated as good.

Our key findings were as follows:

  • The practice had introduced a comprehensive system to monitor fire safety at the practice.
  • The practice had ensured safety checks such as legionella and inspection of the electrical wiring installation had been carried out.
  • The practice had developed an effective system to monitor the safety of the premises.
