Governance, management and sustainability

Regulations met

The practice had a governance system that included policies and procedures, which were accessible to staff and were reviewed on a regular basis.

Systems and processes were embedded, and the assessment did not highlight any significant issues or omissions.

Staff were aware of the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations.

There were effective processes for undertaking audits, identifying and managing risks, investigating incidents and accidents, and for receiving and acting on safety alerts.

Concerns and complaints were responded to appropriately, and outcomes were discussed to share learning and for improvement.

Staff demonstrated an open culture in relation to people’s safety. Staff had clear responsibilities, and systems of accountability to support good governance.

Staff feedback was obtained through meetings, surveys, and informal discussions. They were encouraged to offer suggestions for improvements to the service, and they said these were listened to and acted upon, where appropriate. The provider supported staff both personally and professionally. For example, all staff were given a well-being day on top of their annual leave allowance. Every practice within the group had a designated mental health first aider, who had received training on this and could support and signpost staff at initial indications of any mental health issues or distress. Staff received funding towards their own dental treatment and eyesight tests. They had access to on-line GP services, and were given funding towards private diagnostic assessments/treatments to avoid any waiting times they may otherwise experience. Staff received a complimentary bonus on the birth of any of their children. The practice supported the wider community. This included, amongst other things, the placement of a defibrillator outside the practice, for use by the public in the event of a suspected cardiac emergency. (This was in addition to the defibrillator kept within the practice for work related emergencies).

Feedback from patients, the public and external partners was collected and responded to.
