Equity in access

Score: 3

The practice mostly ensured people could access the care, support and treatment when they needed it.

The practice performed above both local and national averages in the results of the 2026 National GP Patient Survey. For example, 74% of patients said they had a good overall experience of contacting the practice, 64% stated it was easy to contact the practice by phone, 57% stated it was easy to use the website, and 85% found the reception and administrative team helpful. The results were in line with national and local averages.

People could access the practice by telephone, in person, or via the multilingual website. Treatment rooms were located on the ground floor with appropriate mobility access. The reception staff acted as care navigators and directed patients to the most appropriate service. They had completed care navigation training, followed guidance and consulted with the GP when undertaking care navigation. Patients were seen according to clinical risk to prevent admission to secondary care. Patients had access to an enhanced access service from 6.30 pm to 10 pm on weekdays and all day at weekends.

The leaders monitored patient access to appointments to identify any risks and areas of improvements.

The practice also provided longer appointments for patients with a learning disability or mental health condition to support equitable access to care. Treatment rooms were available on the ground floor and the entrance door enabled both wheelchair and pram access.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

The 2026 National GP patient survey feedback was positive, 92% of patients stated their needs were met. Leaders worked and collaborated with local organisations to tackle health inequalities in the local population.

The practice referred patients to health promotion initiatives delivered through the local Primary Care Network, including community wellbeing events and awareness campaigns for carers and people with long-term health conditions.

The lead nurse had participated in the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community health improvement project. The aim was to improve the uptake of preventative healthcare services, through community engagement, outreach clinics, flexible appointments and education and information relating to childhood immunisation and cervical screening. The provider had systems in place to support registration for vulnerable groups, including homeless people and travellers.

Staff had completed training to enable them to understand the needs of people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes.
