Equity in access

Score: 3

The service made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.

The service performed better than the national average in the results of the 2026 National GP Patient Survey with regards to access. This showed people could access the service when they needed it in a way that suited their needs, such as by telephone, in person or through the service’s website. For example, 97% of respondents to the survey described their overall experience of contacting this service as being good, compared to a national average of 73%. More specifically, 98% of respondents found it easy to contact the practice via telephone, 86% found it easy to contact the practice via their website, and 83% found it easy to contact the practice via the NHS app. These results were all higher than the national averages of 57%, 58%, and 54% respectively. There was a system in place to detect when the phone lines were particularly busy, and to overflow those calls into the office of practice management who could then assist in answering calls. This was not needed regularly. Practice management monitored call answering times. Representatives from the Patient Participation Group (PPG) told us that physical access to the practice was considerate of those with a disability.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. They tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.

Staff treated people equally and without discrimination. Staff understood the importance of providing an inclusive approach to care and made adjustments to support equity in people’s experience and outcomes. Staff followed processes to ensure people could register at the service, including those in vulnerable circumstances such as homeless people and Travellers. Staff used systems to capture and review feedback from people who used the service, which included those who did not speak English or have access to the internet. This was reflected in the feedback shared from people who used the service, which was positive. A representative from the PPG told us that staff at the practice were good at considering the mental health of service-users. This was mirrored in results in the National GP Patient Survey, where 91% of respondents felt the healthcare professional they saw at their last appointment was good at considering their mental wellbeing. This was higher than the national average of 75%.
