This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Beech House Surgery had a shared vision, strategy, and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion, and engagement. Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.
Staff we spoke to at the time of our visit confirmed that they felt supported by their line manager and senior management and that managers were visible and approachable. They also stated that they had enough guidance, policies, and procedures to do their job well, that they liked working at the surgery and that there was a positive culture and good working atmosphere.
Staff had opportunities to contribute to the development of the surgery’s vision and strategy, and this was kept under review. Leaders monitored and reviewed progress against the delivery of their strategy.
The provider was aware of local challenges which affected them and had plans in place to extend the premises to increase both clinical and administrative working areas and ensure continuity of care for patients.
Staff and leaders actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development.
Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights training was mandatory for all staff, and all staff had completed it.

Governance, management and sustainability
Beech House Surgery had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment, and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance, and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.
All staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews.
The provider had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their service. Staff could access all required policies and procedures online, and these were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance.
Leaders held regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed issues and concerns plus any potential improvements to the surgery. Leaders clearly recorded any actions that arose from these meetings and shared these with staff.
Staff took confidentiality and information security seriously and submitted data and notifications to external agencies as required.
The provider had a Sustainable Development Plan in place which outlined their commitment to sustainable development and set clear objectives for reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, reducing water usage, and minimising waste.
In addition, they had also developed a Green Plan and Sustainable Development Policy which set out their current carbon reduction initiatives and how they would support the Greener NHS National Programme.
To date, several initiatives had already been completed, including installing solar panels to reduce energy consumption/cost, recycling batteries, and printer toner cartridges, installing thermostats on radiators, upgrading lighting to LED, and offering a cycle to work scheme and installing a cycle rack outside the surgery.
