Caring
We looked for evidence the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 80 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and in how they respected people’s privacy and dignity. Staff always treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. Case studies we saw evidenced that the care coordination and social prescribing team (employed by the practice through Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme in the Primary Care Network) had gone above and beyond to secure successful outcomes for patients.
Appointments for every patient were a minimum of 15 minutes, as standard. This enabled clinicians to give more time to holistic care and treatment. The service had arrangements to promote people’s privacy. The service performed better than the national average in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people felt listened to and felt they were treated with kindness. For example, 94% of respondents to the survey felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment was good at treating them with care and concern, compared to a national average of 86%. The practice scored higher than national averages in almost every element of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This was mirrored in feedback from people we received during our assessment who described staff as “utterly fantastic”, and repeatedly described their efficient, attentive and professional approach. In comparison with a national average of 75%, the practice scored 93% for the percentage of people who found their overall experience of Mayford House Surgery to be positive. We observed staff talking kindly to patients, and about patients, in the course of our assessment.
