During our inspection we spoke with seven patients and 11 members of staff. Patients were happy with the care provided and felt that the practice met their needs. One patient told us that the GP had "explained well" and said that the service was 'Excellent today.' Another patient described themselves as a 'happy patient.' They all thought that staff were kind and caring.
Staff were aware of the causes of potential abuse of children and vulnerable adults and were aware of their responsibility in reporting it. They were able to provide clear explanations showing that staff were aware of the risks and knew how to report them.
During our inspection we found that the door into the dispensary from the corridor used by patients to access the consultation rooms could not be locked. This meant that patients were at risk of unauthorised access to medicines when the dispensary was unmanned therefore medicines were not kept safely.
We reviewed the staff files for three staff who had recently been recruited. We found that the files were not comprehensive and did not include all the recommended documents. The provider had not assured themselves that new staff had undergone the appropriate checks and were considered safe to work with children and vulnerable adults, prior to being offered a position at the practice.
Patients who used the service were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted upon. The practice carried out an annual survey asking patients for their feedback about the service they received.
