Caring
We looked for evidence the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. There were arrangements to promote peoples’ privacy. Staff we spoke with understood Gillick competency (Gillick competency refers to the legal ability of a child under 16 to consent to medical treatment without parental consent, provided they have sufficient understanding and intelligence to appreciate the treatment's nature, risks, and alternatives) and there was a process to ensure young adults had control over their own privacy and the amount of parental involvement in managing their care and support.
Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. There was a separate room available for people requiring a private conversation away from the reception desk.
The service performed better than the national average in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people felt listened to and felt they were treated with kindness. For example, 99% of respondents to the survey felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment was good at treating them with care and concern, compared to a national average of 86%. People who used the service told us: “The advice and care and commitment to patients’ health is always optimum at Chagford Health Centre”, “From the moment you contact the surgery, the staff are friendly, professional, and genuinely committed to helping patients”, “Their compassion and dedication truly make a difference”,” In an era where healthcare often feels rushed and impersonal, the team consistently demonstrates what compassionate, patient-centred medicine should look like. The quality of care has been nothing short of excellent”.
Feedback from friends and family survey showed that 97% of people felt the service they received was good or very good.
