Equity in access

Score: 3

The service made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.

The service operated a total triage system for access. Online requests were triaged for urgent requests or routine appointments. People were offered in person or telephone consultations with a GP or an ANP appointment for minor ailments. People could be referred to an off-site same day urgent service if urgent slots were maximised. Additional appointments were available in the evenings and weekends at 2 nearby Hub locations. The service also participated in the pharmacy first scheme. (A scheme where community pharmacies prescribe medicines for specific common conditions without a GP appointment).

The service performed similar to other local practices in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. For example:

64% of respondents to the survey responded positively to the overall experience of contacting their GP practice compared to a national average of 70%.

58% of respondents to the survey responded positively to how easy it was to contact their GP practice on the phone compared to a national average of 53%.

The service reviewed feedback on access and acted on it. For example, in response to feedback from people who used the service, the service had improved the support offered to people who were digitally excluded to access the total triage system.

The facilities promoted ease of access. For example, treatment rooms were situated on the ground floor, and the entrances were accessible to people with mobility impairments.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. They tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.

Staff treated people equally and without discrimination. Leaders proactively sought ways to address any barriers to improving people’s experience and worked with local services. Staff understood the importance of providing an inclusive approach to care and made adjustments to support equity in people’s experience and outcomes.

Staff followed processes to ensure people could register at the service, including those in vulnerable circumstances such as homeless people.

Staff had access to interpreter services to communicate with people whose first language was not English and there was a hearing loop at reception to support communication with people who were hard of hearing.

The premises was Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant.
