During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We carried out this review to follow up on one area of non compliance from our previous visit. We did not visit the service as part of this review or speak with patients or staff. However, we reviewed the action plan the provider sent us, detailing how they were going to address these issues and requested additional information.

The provider told us systems had been put in place to ensure the any gaps in employment were explored and recorded during interviews and information about Disclosure and Barring Checks were on file.

The provider had introduced a procedure for checking emergency drugs / equipment and all other equipment located in the nurses' and treatment rooms. The provider sent us copies of the audits carried out by the practice manager to support that the appropriate checks had been completed and any action taken as required.

Risk assessments of the building had been undertaken and any action identified as urgent taken. Systems were now in place to check the fire alarm system on a regular basis.

During a routine inspection

Patients said they were treated with care and respect. One patient said 'The GP has been brilliant'. Another patient said 'Fantastic, they try their best, I know we will be alright with them, can't fault them.' Patients' needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual wishes. One patient told us 'The doctor is very supportive, gives reassurance, answers my questions and explains the reports.' Another said 'I was given a choice of three hospitals to choose from'.

One patient told us they had 'Never needed to complain but would if I thought it was necessary.' However, not everyone knew how to raise concerns.

Patients told us the practice was always clean. Patients knew about the issues regarding access to and around the building. They told us they could make appointments at either practice owned by Dr Powell.

Staff had received training in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They were aware of the appropriate agencies to refer safeguarding concerns to ensure that patients were protected from harm.

The majority of staff working at Arden House Medical Practice have been employed for many years, and were not subject to the recruitment checks that are currently in place.

Patients who used the practice were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted upon. Surveys had been undertaken and the results had been analysed and shared with staff.
