During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We carried out this review to follow up on one area of non compliance from our previous visit. We did not visit the service as part of this review or speak with patients or staff. However, we reviewed the action plan the provider sent us, detailing how they were going to address these issues and requested additional information.

The provider told us systems had been put in place to ensure the any gaps in employment were explored and recorded during interviews and information about Disclosure and Barring Checks were on file.

The provider had introduced a procedure for checking emergency drugs / equipment and all other equipment located in the nurses' and treatment rooms. The provider sent us copies of the audits carried out by the practice manager to support that the appropriate checks had been completed and any action taken as required.

Risk assessments of the building had been undertaken and no issues were identified.

During a routine inspection

Patients told us how they were treated with care and respect. One patient told us 'The surgery is brilliant. I don't feel hurried or rushed. You can tell them everything'. Another patient told us 'Staff have always been supportive and friendly'.

Patients' needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual wishes. One patient told us 'The doctor always explains the pros and cons of treatment.' They also said 'The doctor gave advice about the different hospitals and the waiting times' as this patient had been referred to the hospital as part of their consultation. Another patient told us 'Everything is always explained to me in detail'.

Staff had received training in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They were aware of the appropriate agencies to refer safeguarding concerns to ensure that patients were protected from harm.

The majority of staff working at Arden House Medical Practice have been employed for many years, and were not subject to the recruitment checks that are currently in place. The provider was aware of this and was taking action to address this.

Patients who used the practice were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted upon. Surveys had been undertaken and the results had been analysed and shared with staff. We saw although audits were in place, systems were not in place to ensure any identified actions were taken.
