Safe environments

Score: 3

The service detected and controlled potential risks in the care environment. They made sure equipment, facilities and technology supported the delivery of safe care.

The service had contracts to ensure the premises were maintained. For example, electrical equipment was serviced annually and medical equipment was calibrated in line with manufacturers' recommendations. Portable appliances were last tested in May 2025. Records we reviewed also showed regular fire drills were carried out and a fire risk assessment, dated 5 May 2026, was in place. All actions identified were all addressed.

Staff and leaders completed health and safety risk assessments and undertook audits to ensure they had identified and addressed all risks The service had a business continuity plan, which was regularly reviewed and outlined how the service should continue to operate in the event of a disruption.

Hallways and corridors were noted to be clean, tidy and free from clutter during our onsite visit. Staff offices were kept secure, and access was restricted from the public.

Safe and effective staffing

Score: 3

The service made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs. The service employed a range of clinical and non-clinical roles, which included GPs, nurses, a pharmacy technician and dispenser. Leaders ensured staff were up to date with their training which the service had deemed mandatory and operated within their agreed areas of competence. Due to the nature of the service, and its small size, staff had been trained to support different non-clinical roles where needed, for example, to provide staff sickness cover. The service followed safe recruitment procedures when employing staff, which were in line with national legislation. This included identity checks, review of qualifications, obtaining of professional references and a criminal records check.

Staff we spoke with confirmed they felt supported in their roles and had received appropriate training for their responsibilities. Records we reviewed demonstrated there were sufficient staff to meet demand.

Infection prevention and control

Score: 3

Theserviceassessedandmanagedtheriskofinfection.Theydetectedandcontrolledthe riskofitspreadingandsharedconcernswithappropriateagenciespromptly. The service had cleaning schedules available, which outlined how staff should clean the building and its equipment. The service demonstrated how these were monitored for completion to maintain oversight of cleaning arrangements. The service’s infection prevention and control lead conducted risk assessments, hand hygiene audits and annual audits to ensure compliance and acted, where necessary, to mitigate any identified risks. Staff had completed the appropriate infection prevention and control training. During our onsite visit, the service's premises and a sample of equipment reviewed were noted to be visibly clean. However, mop heads in the cleaning cupboard were not stored separately, in line with national guidance, increasing the risk of cross-contamination. Following feedback, leaders provided assurance that mop heads are replaced daily, appropriately laundered, and will be stored in line with infection prevention and control procedures moving forward.
