Safe environments

Score: 3

The service detected and controlled potential risks in the care environment. They made sure equipment, facilities and technology supported the delivery of safe care.
The service had contracts to ensure the premises was maintained. Staff and leaders completed health and safety risk assessments and undertook audits to ensure they had identified and addressed all risks. For example, we saw that control measures such as fire alarm tests and routine evacuation drills had been undertaken in line with recognised fire safety requirements. Systems were in place to maintain the security of prescription stationery.
The service had a business continuity plan which was regularly reviewed and outlined how the service should continue to operate in the event of a disruption.

Safe and effective staffing

Score: 3

The service made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs.
The service employed a range of clinical and non-clinical roles, which included GPs, nurses, and allied roles. In addition, the service utilised staff employed through their local Primary Care Network, providing a broader range of services to people. These included social prescribers, and mental health facilitators. Leaders ensured staff were up to date with their training which the service had deemed mandatory and operated within their agreed areas of competence. Staff told us they received support, supervision and learning and development opportunities.
The service followed safe recruitment procedures when employing staff, which was in line with national legislation. This included identity checks, review of qualifications, obtaining of professional references and a criminal records check. Staff vaccination was maintained in line with current UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance if relevant to their role.

Score: 3

The service assessed and managed the risk of infection. They detected and controlled the risk of it spreading and shared concerns with appropriate agencies promptly.
The service had comprehensive cleaning schedules in place, which clearly outlined the responsibilities and processes for cleaning the premises and equipment. The provider demonstrated effective systems for monitoring completion of these schedules, ensuring appropriate oversight of cleaning arrangements. During our site visit, the premises and a sample of equipment reviewed were visibly clean and well maintained.
At the time of our inspection, the service had an interim infection prevention and control (IPC) lead in post and advised that arrangements were underway to appoint a permanent lead due to start by the 1st of August 2026. The IPC lead carried out regular risk assessments and audits to monitor compliance with infection prevention and control standards and took prompt action to address and mitigate any identified risks.
