Safe environments

Score: 3

The surgery premises were rented from an independent NHS approved landlord.

The practice had clear security arrangements to keep people and staff safe and access to non-public areas were adequately restricted and monitored. We saw evidence of a robust security risk assessment and staff we spoke with were able to explain the processes to follow to ensure that the practice remained secure during the daytime and when the practice was closed.

Staff and visitors were logged in and out of the building. Staff used a signing in board to announce their arrival and when they left the practice. Visitors signed into a visitors’ book and were provided with a visitors badge on a lanyard. The sign in system was also utilised as a register in case people needed to evacuate the practice in an emergency.

We saw that the service had effective systems to monitor and comply with mandatory risk assessments to ensure that people and staff remained safe. Staff offices were secure, and access was restricted from the public.

Leaders told us that the practice offered staff the opportunity for flexible working and had in the past allowed dependents to attend the practice who were restricted to non-clinical areas.
