During a routine inspection

Turning point community detox work in partnership with Phoenix Futures provides services for people with alcohol problems in Trafford. Phoenix Futures are the single point of referral into Turning Point community detox

At the time of our inspection 12 people were being supported by Turning Point. Additional to the Manager and team leader there were two Community detox nurses employed and one support worker

During our inspection we spoke to two people using the service and reviewed three care records.

People using the service told us: 'They explained everything, starting with how I needed to prepare, information about what to expect during detox and they are helping me to plan my aftercare.' 'They have taken me through every step so far. I have a fantastic key worker.' 'They need a gold plaque for what they have done for me.' 'Absolutely wonderful staff, they are on hand whenever I need to speak to someone.'

We looked in detail at care records for three people using the community detox service and found clear evidence people who used the service understood the care and treatment choices available to them.

We noted a comprehensive assessment process took place and looked at people's current and past alcohol use, psychiatric history, current metal health and treatment, relationships/family, physical health, housing, dependants, hobbies and leisure interests, goals and aspirations.

We saw staff had completed safeguarding training and were due to complete an up date with the Local Authority Safeguarding Board in 2013.

As part of our inspection we looked at two staff files and looked at the staff training schedule. We saw evidence staff received supervision, training and appropriate professional development.

During our inspection we were provided with evidence of a range of systems in place to ensure people who use the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted on.

Feedback included: 'I cannot think of anyway to improve the service; I was very well cared for.' 'Fantastic staff, very well run, everyone has been great, really pleased about how things are going.'
