Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 16 May 2025

Date of assessment: 6 June to 18 June 2025. Sandhall Park is a care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 50 people in two purpose-built units. People who live at the service were younger and older adults who may live with dementia or mental health illnesses. There were 49 people living at the service when we inspected.

The inspection was undertaken to review a breach in regulation found during the last inspection in June 2019. The breach related to the governance in the service. The provider completed an action plan in response to the concerns found during that inspection. Although we found some areas needed further improvement in governance and record keeping during this inspection, overall enough improvement had been made, and the provider was no longer in breach of regulation.

People were cared for with dignity and respect by staff who were confident in their roles. Staff were recruited safely and received all relevant training to ensure they could do their jobs well. People’s medication was managed safely, and their health was monitored by staff who knew when to escalate any concerns.

People’s needs were assessed and person-centred care records were developed. We observed staff working well together which provided a calm environment. Staff knew people well and treated people as individuals. One staff member said, “We value person centred care, people are given choice as an individual.”

People, families and staff had been involved in the care planning process and had been given the opportunity to feedback about their care. One staff member told us, they were proud of how the staff cared for people.

The registered manager and senior team were competent in their roles and led with an ‘open door policy’. Staff could approach management at any time and ask for support. People told us staff learnt from when things went wrong, however the recording of this needed to be improved. The registered manager addressed this in response to feedback given at the time of the inspection. People’s risks were managed well. However, we found some risk assessments were still being developed. People were safe and work was ongoing to update and implement the new digital record system within the service to improve this.

Audits were taking place to monitor health and care standards in the service, however these needed expanding to ensure all areas of care was reviewed. The provider was already reviewing the auditing system at the time of the inspection and had a new system ready to implement to help ensure robust oversight was in place moving forward.
