During an inspection looking at part of the service

We inspected this practice to follow up actions taken in respect of the compliance actions issued, following concerns at our last inspection in November 2013.

We found the practice staff had all accessed training relevant to their role in safeguarding vulnerable people.

The safeguarding policy had been updated to reflect the process for referral through to local safeguarding teams.

Disclosure and barring service (DBS) checks for staff within the practice had been risk assessed and had started to be requested as required.

We found there was now a record of audits being carried out in non-clinical and clinical areas of the practice.

We found up to date records of staff training were available.

All meetings within the practice were now formally recorded.

A patient survey was underway and a copy of the collated information would be made available to the Care Quality Commission once completed.

There was now a more robust process in place for informing patients how to make complaints and then managing and learning from complaints.

We did not speak to any patients during this inspection.

5 November 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with five people who had attended for appointments, two GPs, the practice manager and her assistant, a practice nurse, a health care assistant and one member of reception staff.

People told us they were fully involved in discussions and decisions about their treatment and said they were listened to. People told us they could arrange an appointment either by telephoning the surgery or attending for the open surgery which ran each morning. Some people told us they felt it was difficult to get appointments at times.

People were satisfied with the way they were treated by staff. Comments included, 'The GPs are helpful; they all know what they are talking about' and 'I would recommend this practice to other people'.

The practice had a policy in relation to safeguarding children although there was no similar policy relating to vulnerable adults. We found improvements needed to be made to ensure people were protected when they visited the practice.

Staff told us they enjoyed working at the practice and felt supported by other members of the team. One person commented, 'It's a fantastic place to work. They are so supportive to staff. It's a wonderful team'.

The provider had some systems in place for monitoring the quality of service provision. However, we found further work was needed to demonstrate compliance with this outcome.
