All Inspections

11 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During our visit to West Street Surgery we met with the GP partner who was also the registered manager and with the practice manager. We spoke with eight patients and with five members of staff. We also met a district nurse and a health visitor from the local NHS Trust. Both liaised and worked closely with the practice.

Patients received good explanation of their care and treatment. One patient told us "the doctor explains the diagnosis and treatment very clearly. If there is something you are not so sure about it is O.K. to ask questions".

Treatment was planned and delivered with regard to patients' safety and welfare. A patient said 'I have been called in for a well woman check. I'm 100% behind that, it could stop problems for the future".

Staff were well trained to spot possible signs of abuse and were aware of the procedures to alert the appropriate authorities if they suspected abuse had occurred.

Medicines were stored, recorded, prescribed and dispensed safely.

Staff were supported and received training appropriate to their roles and responsibilities. A member of staff we spoke with said "they [management] ask if there is anything else we would like to do to help us in our role".

The practice had systems in place to seek and act on patient feedback and carried out audits to monitor clinical quality.
