Our view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 16 June 2026.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

We found shortfalls in appropriately assessing and mitigating risks in relation to the control of substances hazardous to health, infection prevention and control, closed circuit television and medical emergencies.

The management of fire safety required improvement to ensure national guidance was followed.

Although there are issues to be addressed, the impact of our concerns relates to the governance and the oversight of the risks, rather than a patient safety risk.

The practice is in Bristol and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and on street car parking was available near the practice.

The practice had 5 treatment rooms.

At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 14 staff, of which there were 4 dentists, 2 foundation dentists, 1 dental nurse, 2 trainee dental nurses, 2 receptionists, 1 treatment coordinator, 1 cleaner and the practice manager.

We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 1 foundation dentist, 1 receptionist, a treatment coordinator and the practice manager.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 Good governance regulation. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 12 patients.

On the day of our inspection, we saw patient feedback from a further 9 patients.

Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included,“Very impressed . The service was amazing all staff were great happy and friendly. I can’t praise them enough thank you very much.”

“Excellent service, very good with children and very patient. Very helpful people would recommend.”

“So good with both the kids and made them feel at ease. Really clear communication and put everyone at ease.”

“I had an emergency appointment for a very bad long-term toothache due to a snapped tooth, I suffer with anxiety and the male dentist was absolutely brilliant and so was his coworker, made me feel very comfortable relaxed and very explanatory with the plans of treatment etc, very impressed, thank you.”

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
