Shared direction and culture

The service had a shared mission statement, values, vision and aims. This was based on providing high quality care with people at the heart of everything they do, professionalism, best practice, respect, working together with people, integrity and adaptability. Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.

Staff and leaders actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on people who used the service. Staff we spoke with gave positive feedback about the supportive teamwork culture, which prioritised people who used the service.

Governance, management and sustainability

The service had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.

Staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders were available for staff support and advice. Staff we spoke with told us they were supported. Staff told us that they received formal appraisals, but also ongoing support on a more informal basis.

Staff could access all required policies and procedures, which were regularly reviewed. Leaders held regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed emerging risks and potential improvements to the service.

Staff took confidentiality and information security seriously, which included verifying people’s identity during remote consultations. Staff submitted data and notifications to external agencies as required.
