Updated 25 February 2021

Barony Lodge is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 60 people aged 65 and over. At the time of the inspection 50 people were living at the home.

We found the following examples of good practice:

The home was clean and hygienic. There were cleaning schedules in place and regular auditing to ensure effective cleaning was carried out. Frequent touch points were cleaned regularly and suitable products were used to help sanitise surfaces.

The provider had robust infection prevention and control policies and procedures in place which were kept under review. Staff were supported to keep up to date with changes to national guidance.

Staff were wearing and disposing of used personal protective equipment (PPE) safely and in line with the relevant guidance. There were PPE 'stations' situated at regular points around the home.

Effective procedures were in place to support visitors to the home. A new visiting pod had just been installed.

Consideration had been given to ensure people were able to socially distance around the building and where necessary supported to self isolate in their bedrooms.

The home had a testing programme in place to frequently test staff and people living at the home. Additional staff had been recruited to focus on testing and supporting people’s wellbeing.
