Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 4

The service was very good at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.

The service performed better than the national average in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people felt listened to and felt they were treated with kindness. For example, 96% (national average 87%) of respondents to the survey felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment was good at listening to them and 98.5% (national average 92.5%) felt they had confidence and trust in the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to. This was mirrored in feedback from people we spoke with during our assessment who described the service as “brilliant” and “excellent.”

The provider shared feedback with us that they had received through the NHS Friends and Family Test and this showed high patient satisfaction with the service. Friends and Family Test data for January to March 2026 demonstrated that 95.5% of 830 respondents stated their experience of the service was good or very good.

The provider promoted a culture of kindness, empathy and respect through the practice vision and patient charter, which set out clear expectations for how patients and colleagues were treated. These values were reinforced through staff training and team meetings. We spoke with staff in different roles and they demonstrated a highly caring and supportive patient centred approach to their work.

There were arrangements to ensure confidentiality in the reception area. For example, if people were distressed or wanted to speak to reception staff in confidence, they could use a separate, designated area next to the reception desk.

The practice had designated members of the non-clinical team who took a lead in supporting patients. For example, there was a carers lead. There were care-coordinators who co-ordinated patients care where this was needed, for example due to complex needs or particular health conditions, such as cancer. They also acted as a point of contact for these patients when they needed support. The practice was also an Armed Forces veteran friendly accredited practice.
