Well-led
We looked for evidence that the service’s leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care and promoted an open and fair culture. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Sherburn Group Practice had a shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion and engagement. Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.
Staff had opportunities to contribute to the development of the practice’s vision and strategy, and this was kept under review. Leaders monitored and reviewed progress against the delivery of their strategy.
The practice was aware of local challenges which affected them (such as the building of new homes and the impact that had on the size and makeup of their patient list) and had worked with partner agencies to try and address these challenges.
Staff and leaders actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development.
Most staff we spoke to confirmed that there was a positive culture and good working atmosphere in the practice. All staff we spoke to reported that they felt supported by their line manager and senior managers and that they found managers to be visible and approachable.
Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights training was mandatory for all staff, and most had completed it.

Governance, management and sustainability
Sherburn Group Practice had clear responsibilities, roles, and systems of accountability which they used to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.
All staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews.
Although some issues were identified with the oversight of staff recruitment processes and training (as highlighted under the Quality Statement “Safe and Effective Staffing”), the practice generally had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their service.
Staff could access all required policies and procedures online, and these were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance.
Leaders held regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed issues and concerns plus any potential improvements to the practice. Leaders clearly recorded any actions that arose from these meetings and shared these with staff.
Staff demonstrated awareness of confidentiality and information security seriously and submitted data and notifications to external agencies as required.
