Date of Assessment: 12 March 2025. Cambridge Medical Group is a GP practice and delivers services to 7,303 people under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states that the population served by Cambridge Medical Group is more deprived than the United Kingdom average. We assessed whether this service was responsive, due to feedback from people collected by CQC and the National GP Patient Survey which indicated people had difficulty accessing the practice. We also assessed whether this service was safe, due to observations that were made during the site visit. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
The facilities and premises were not clean or well maintained, and risks related to the environment had not been mitigated. However, at the time of the assessment, there were plans in place for services to be delivered from a new premises later this year. Construction work for this move was ongoing at the time of the assessment. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience, although oversight from leadership of staff training was poor. Managers made sure staff received regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Regular meetings were in place for the discussion of safeguarding concerns and palliative care provision. Staff managed emergency medicines well.
People were involved in decisions about their care. The service provided information people could understand. People knew how to give feedback. Practice leadership had not conducted audits relating to access despite complaints and feedback in this area.
The service was in breach of the legal regulation relating to premises and equipment. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
