Equity in access

Score: 3

The provider made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.

The provider performed better than the national average in the results of the 2026 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people could access the service in a way that suited their needs, including by telephone, in person and through the practice website. For example, 85% of respondents described their overall experience of contacting the practice as good, compared with a national average of 73%. In addition, 80% of respondents found it easy to contact the practice by telephone compared with 57% nationally, and 78% found it easy to contact the practice using the website compared with 58% nationally.

The practice had considered the accessibility needs of people using the service. Treatment rooms were located on the ground floor and wide doorways supported access for wheelchair users. A handrail was available in the car park and the reception area included a lowered desk to support people using wheelchairs. The entrance door was fitted with a doorbell to enable people to request assistance when accessing the practice, and a hearing loop was available to support people with hearing impairments.

Staff made reasonable adjustments to support people to access care. Adjustments were tailored to individual patient needs and included offering flexible appointment arrangements for people who found the standard practice environment challenging. Staff arranged appointments during quieter lunchtime periods, met patients at their car where required, supported access via an alternative entrance and reduced sensory stimulation by turning off lights when appropriate.

The practice website included a language translation function offering access to information in a wide range of languages. Information was available to help people access interpreter and translation services, including British Sign Language (BSL) support. The website also included accessibility options, enabling people to adjust features such as text size and dyslexia-friendly viewing settings.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. They tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.

Staff treated people equally and without discrimination. Leaders worked to reduce barriers to accessing care and support and considered the needs of different groups within the practice population. The practice was a SAFE Surgery and Armed Forces Veteran Friendly accredited practice. These accreditations demonstrate a commitment to reducing barriers to healthcare access and ensuring the needs of military veterans are recognised and supported.

Staff followed processes to ensure people could register with the practice, including people who may experience barriers to accessing healthcare services, in line with the practice's SAFE Surgery commitment.
