Equity in access

Score: 3

The service took steps to support equitable access to care and treatment. Leaders monitored access and used information from patients and performance data to identify where improvements were needed.

The service performed better than local and national averages in the results of the 2026 National GP Patient Survey for people’s experience of contacting the practice. For example, 77% of respondents reported a good overall experience of contacting the GP practice, compared with 73% locally and nationally.

The provider took action to reduce barriers to accessing care. Treatment rooms were available on the ground floor, and automatic doors had been fitted at the entrance to support people with mobility needs. The provider had also introduced a drop-in blood pressure check service delivered by trained administrative staff using specialist equipment capable of detecting irregular heart rhythms. This provided an alternative option for people who did not wish to book an appointment with a clinician or lacked confidence to monitor their own blood pressure. The initiative improved access to health checks and identified a number of people with previously undiagnosed heart rhythm problems, allowing them to receive appropriate follow-up care and support.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were more likely to experience inequality in their care or health outcomes. They used this information to tailor services and improve people's experiences.

Staff treated people equally and without discrimination and worked to ensure care was inclusive. The provider recognised that some groups may face barriers to sharing feedback and developed tailored patient satisfaction surveys for children and people with a learning disability. This helped ensure the views of these groups were heard and considered when reviewing and developing services.

Staff understood the importance of making reasonable adjustments and providing care in a way that met people's individual needs. Systems were in place to support patient registration, including for people in vulnerable circumstances, such as homeless people and Travellers. The practice had also achieved Dementia Friendly and Armed Forces Veteran accreditation, demonstrating its commitment to meeting the needs of different groups within the community. Leaders actively sought feedback from a range of people and used this information to help reduce inequalities in people's experiences and outcomes.
