Caring
We looked for evidence the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.
The service had arrangements to promote people’s privacy. Consultations were conducted in private consultation rooms and doors were always closed. Computers were password protected.
The service performed better than the national average in the results of the 2026 National GP Patient Survey. For example, 95% of respondents to the survey felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment was good at treating them with care and concern, compared to a national average of 86% and local average of 87%. This was mirrored in feedback from people we spoke with during our assessment who described staff as “caring”, and “empathetic”. Patients we spoke with gave multiple examples of how staff were kind and compassionate to them. Examples included, visiting them when a loved one passed away; doing welfare checks on them after abnormal test results or diagnosis.
Patients felt involved in their care and treatment. The GP Patient survey results showed that 98% of patients said they were involved as much as they wanted to be in decisions about their care and treatment during their last general practice appointments. In addition, 100% felt their needs were met during their last general practice appointments. Patients we spoke with confirmed they were involved in all aspects of their care. Multiple people we spoke with commented that things were always explained well and staff treated them with empathy, like they were family.
Patients felt staff listened to them during their appointments. For example, 99%said the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to was good at listening to them during their last general practice appointment. This was compared to local (88%) and national (87%). This showed people felt listened to and felt they were treated with kindness.
The practice was featured in a local newspaper celebrating their achievements with patient satisfaction. In the most recent GP Patient survey they had been highlighted as the best performing practice in the primary care network in relation to patient satisfaction (scoring over 90% in 11 out of 20 indicators).
