Seaford Medical Practice provides general medical services to approximately 17,900 registered patients. Seaford Medical Practice is registered as a GP training practice providing training opportunities for doctors seeking to become fully qualified GPs (registrars), physicians associates, final year medical students and work experience for 6th form students.

The practice delivers services to a higher number of patients who are aged 65 years and over, when compared with the national average. Care is provided to patients living in residential and nursing home facilities and one local hospice. Data available to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) shows the number of registered patients suffering income deprivation is lower than the national average.

Care and treatment is delivered by twelve GP partners and two salaried GP. Seven of the GPs are female and seven are male. The practice employs a clinical nurse manager and four practice nurses, six healthcare assistants and one phlebotomist. GPs and nurses are supported by the Business partner, Patient Services Manager, Reception Manager, Clinical Information Manager, Finance Manager and a team of administration and reception staff.

The practice provides a range of primary medical services including examinations, investigations and treatments and a number of clinics such as, clinics for patients with diabetes, asthma and hypertension.

The practice is open from 8.00am to 6.00pm on weekdays. Routine, book-in-advance nurse appointments are available Wednesday evenings until 8pm and Saturday mornings (GP appointments) between 8.30am and 11am. The practice operates a flexible appointment system to ensure all patients who needed to be seen the same day are accommodated.

Services are provided from: Seaford Health Centre, Dane Road, Seaford, BN25 1DH.

The practice is registered to provide the following regulated activities:

  • Maternity and midwifery services
  • Surgical procedures
  • Diagnostic and screening procedures

During the times when the practice was closed 6pm until 8am, the practice had arrangements for patients to access care from an Out of Hours provider.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Seaford Medical Practice on 29 November 2018. The practice is rated as Good overall. (Previous rating April 2015 – Good)

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Seaford Medical Practice on 29 November 2018 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. The inspection was planned to check whether the provider is meeting the legal requirements and regulations associated with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, to look at the overall quality of the service, and to provide a rating for the service under the Care Act 2014.

At this inspection we found:

  • The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.
  • The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.
  • Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
  • Patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.
  • The practice had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs.
  • There was a clear leadership structure and staff felt supported by management.
  • The practice reviewed and considered patient views through surveys and a patient participation group (PPG).
  • Staff worked well together as a team and all felt supported to carry out their roles. There was a strong team ethos and culture of working together for a common aim.
  • There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.
