Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The practice always treated patients with kindness, empathy and compassion. Staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. Staff also treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Patients told us they felt listened to and were treated with kindness by staff. This feedback was mirrored in the results of the national GP Patient Survey (2026). It showed 89% of respondents felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment at Valley Medical Centre was good at listening to them. It also showed 87% felt the healthcare professional treated them with care and concern. These figures were slightly above local and national results.

The practice had arrangements to promote people’s privacy. All non-clinical, patient-facing staff had completed training to allow them to chaperone patients during intimate clinical examinations. Staff offered patients a chaperone before any such appointment. Patients could request a chaperone at any time during their consultation.

Staff had received an in-person training session on how to recognise and respond to signs of patients experiencing domestic abuse. This was to ensure those patients received the care and support they needed, and that safeguarding measures could be put in place where necessary.
