Shared direction and culture

Score: 3

The service had a shared strategy and culture but did not have a formalised vision. We discussed this with the provider who wasreceptive to our feedback and assured us this would be addressed. The provider’s strategy and culture were based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion and engagement. Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.

Leaders monitored and reviewed progress against the delivery of their strategy. The service showed strong awareness of local challenges and responded proactively as a team, supported by regular meetings, effective communication, and collaborative working. They had developed strong links with external services, ensuring patients could be directed to appropriate support.

Staff and leaders actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. The provider demonstrated a clear commitment to staff welfare and had proactively established multiple systems to support staff wellbeing. For example, a secure bicycle storage facility had been installed to support staff participating in the cycle-to-work scheme. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development.

All staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews. Leaders demonstrated a clear commitment to staff development by sourcing and supporting access to formalised training. For example, they had supported multiple staff members to complete apprenticeship schemes and further education programmes, such as the BTEC Level 4 General Practice Assistant (GPA) programme.

Staff could access all required policies and procedures, which were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance.
