Our view of the service

Treat It Clinic is the registered location for The GP Service (UK) Ltd, which trades under the brand name Treat It Clinic. It is a private clinic that provides medical treatment for patients being prescribed unlicenced cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs). Unlicensed medicines are medicines which have not been assessed for safety, quality and efficacy by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Unlicenced medicines can be prescribed to meet an unmet clinical need of a patient where other licenced treatments have not worked. The clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 to provide the regulated activity of treatment of disease, disorder or injury.

This was a responsive assessment to follow up on information of concern that we had received about the service and, given the length of time since the last inspection, we reviewed all quality statements. The service was last inspected in 2019 when it was rated Good overall, and Good in safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

During this assessment we found breaches of regulation in relation to safe care and treatment and governance and rated the service requires improvement overall. We have served an action plan notice on The GP Service (UK) Ltd for failing to meet the regulations related to safe care and treatment and good governance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the breaches of regulation.

People's experience of this service

The service encouraged patients to leave online reviews. The service also carried out regular audits of patient satisfaction. Patients had reviewed the quality of service online and scored 4.5 out of 5. We saw that 91% of patients said they would recommend the service to friends and family. The service noted any negative comments and looked at ways to improve the service. We did not speak directly with patients during this assessment.
