Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 10 June 2026. Westfield Road Surgery is a GP practice and delivers services to approximately 8,761 people under a contract held with NHS England. The practice operates from one site and is currently undergoing an extension at the existing site. According to the latest available data, the ethnic make-up of the service area is approximately 72% White, 12% Asian, 5% Mixed, 10% Black and 2% Other. Information published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows deprivation within the service population group is in the 5 decile (5 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the service population is relative to others.
This was a focused assessment. We undertook this assessment due to the length of time since our last assessment. We assessed 10 quality statements from across all 5 key questions. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
SAFE - Staff kept facilities clean and maintained equipment appropriately to ensure people were kept safe. They assessed and managed the risk of infection well and took steps to control the risk of it spreading. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience.
EFFECTIVE - Patients were supported to live healthier lives through preventative care, regular reviews and ongoing quality improvement activity driven by data and feedback.
CARING - Staff treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion, and respected their privacy and dignity.
RESPONSIVE - People could access care, treatment and support when they needed it. Leaders and staff demonstrated awareness of potential discrimination and inequalities that could disadvantage some groups and took steps to address barriers where identified, helping to ensure fair and equitable access for all patients.
WELL-LED - Staff understood their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders accounted for the actions, behaviours and performance of staff through clear and effective governance processes.

People's experience of this service

As part of our assessment, we reviewed feedback from people using the service to understand their views and experiences. This included direct feedback from patients and information from the GP Patient Survey.
Overall, people spoke very positively about the quality of care and treatment they received. Patients described timely access to services, particularly when hospital appointments were required, noting these were arranged quickly and results were communicated without delay. People highlighted that clinicians listened carefully to their concerns and made every effort to ensure they were referred promptly to appropriate specialists when needed.
Feedback also reflected strong levels of trust and confidence in healthcare professionals. This was supported by data from the 2025 GP Patient Survey, where 95% of respondents reported confidence and trust in the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to.
Patients expressed satisfaction with the practice overall, with some comparing it favourably to other surgeries. Comments indicated a high level of appreciation for the service provided and no significant concerns were raised.
There is an active Patient Participation Group (PPG), and members reported being kept well informed about developments, including plans to update the surgery. They described positive engagement with practice leaders and felt their input was valued, with ongoing communication helping to maintain transparency.
In summary, feedback and survey data demonstrate that people using the service are highly satisfied, feel listened to, and have confidence in the care provided.
