Date of Assessment: 28 July 2025 to 20 August 2025. Christchurch family Medical Centre is an NHS GP practice located in Downend, Bristol. Christchurch family Medical Centre is the main site and has a branch site named Willow Surgery. There were approximately 28000 patients registered with the practice at the time of our assessment. The National General Practice Profiles state that 89.3% of the practice population are white, 4.3% Asian, and 2.45% black. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 8th decile (8 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. The practice has a higher-than-average population of older people with co-morbidities, - Armed Forces veterans and families. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report. We conducted this assessment to follow up on our previous inspection in August 2023 where we rated the service requires improvement. During this assessment, we assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led key questions. Since the last inspection, the practice had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations. At this assessment the practice had effective systems and processes to maintain oversight of the quality of the service delivered. The practice regularly reviewed, analysed and learnt from complaints and incidents. Although our remote clinical searches found some gaps in the monitoring of health reviews, the practice addressed these immediately and instigated further systems and processes to reduce the risk of this reoccurring.

People's experience of the service

Updated 5 June 2025

Recent survey results, including feedback from the 2024 National GP Patient Survey (GPPS) and the NHS Friends and Family Test, show that most people felt confident and trusted the clinician they saw or spoke with. The NHS Friends and Family Test also highlighted most people were satisfied with the care and treatment they received from clinicians. As part of our assessment, we asked the practice to share a feedback link with patients, which generated 390 responses. These responses reflected a mixed range of views on the quality of care and treatment provided. However, results from the 2024 GP Patient Survey (GPPS) indicated that the overall patient experience of contacting the practice was below the national average. The practice had an active Patient Participation Group (PPG), made up of patients who represented the views of those using the service. Minutes from PPG meetings highlighted several ways the group had supported the practice, such as introducing red toilet seats to direct people living with dementia (a red toilet seat helps people with dementia by making the toilet easier to see and recognise. The strong colour contrast improves visibility, reduces confusion, and supports independence and safety in the bathroom) and helping at vaccination clinics.

Since the last inspection, the practice had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014: Regulation 12 - Safe care and treatment and Regulation 17- Good governance.
