Dr Gonzalez & Partners offers personal medical services to the population of Bexhill On Sea, East Sussex. There are approximately 16,400 registered patients.

The practice is run by ten partner GPs and there are three salaried GPs one of whom specialises in dermatology. The practice is also supported by six practice nurses and seven health care assistants and a team of administrative / reception staff. There is a practice manager at each site.

The practice is a teaching practice for medical students and is also a training practices for F2s (doctors in their second year following qualification), GP registrars (doctors training to be GPs) paramedic practitioners and physician associates (clinical staff trained to work with doctors and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and manage complex disease).

The practice is part of NHS Hastings and Rother Commissioning Group (CCG). Data available to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) shows the scores for income deprivation affecting both adults and children are lower than the CCG and national averages.

We did not inspect the branch surgery during this inspection.

The surgery is open from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 6.30pm. Extended hours are provided at Little Common Surgery from 07:30 Monday to Friday and 07:30 and 19:00 (last appointment) Monday to Friday at Old Town Surgery. Appointments can be booked over the telephone, online or in person at the surgery. There are arrangements for patients to access care from an Out of Hours provider IC24.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Dr J Gonzalez & Partners as part of our inspection programme.

At this inspection we found:

• The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.
• The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.
• Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
• Patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.
• There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.
• The practice place emphasis on training and support for the whole staff team and staff reported that they felt enabled to develop their skills.
• The practice had developed new and innovative ways of working with information technology to support good patient care.
