Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The service always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Arrangements were in place to promote patients’ privacy. National GP Patient Survey data reflected people felt listened to and were treated with kindness. Staff we spoke with understood Gillick competency and there was a process to ensure young adults had control over their own privacy and the amount of parental involvement in managing their care and support.

During the site visit we observed staff to be friendly and helpful with people at the reception desk and when supporting people by telephone. Clinical rooms had privacy curtains. All staff were aware of the importance of people’s confidentiality and gave examples of how this was maintained.Staff also gave examples of how they treated people with kindness, respect and compassion.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The service treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Feedback from people demonstrated they were confident that staff understood their individual needs.

We reviewed the National GP Patient Survey data, published in July 2025. The indicator for the percentage of respondents who stated that during their last appointment, the healthcare professional was very good or fairly good at listening to them was above the England average.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

We did not look at Independence, choice and control during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The service listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

There was a triage system in place to make sure people with urgent needs could access care promptly. Because this was a smaller practice, staff knew many patients well and could recognise when someone needed extra support. They could also request help from clinicians, who responded quickly when needed.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff told us they were valued by leaders. Leaders had taken steps to recognise and meet the wellbeing needs of staff, for example, all staff were given an additional day’s leave each year on their birthday. Staff reported being supported if they were struggling at work. We saw team building events were established within the practice.
