Updated 2 October 2025
We carried out this inspection from 07 October 2025 to 21 October 2025.Barton Court is a 'care home' which provides accommodation and personal care for up to 57 older people who may be living with dementia, or whom have a physical disability or sensory impairment. There were 49 people living at Barton Court on the date of the site visit.
We were prompted to inspect the care home because of the age of their previous Care Quality Commission [CQC] rating which was good [published 20 June 2019].
This inspection was conducted by 2 adult social care inspectors and was unannounced.
Based on the findings of this inspection we continue to rate the service good overall.
We found shortfalls in records relating to risk and medicines and governance systems. Not all risks had been recorded and fully assessed, and medicines records did not always provide guidance to staff in recognising potential changes to people’s health. We found no evidence people suffered harm due to these shortfalls, and we highlighted these during inspection. The registered manager took immediate action to address these, starting with the most urgent risks during inspection and then informed us of a plan to address the remaining.
Safeguarding policies and procedures were in place to ensure people were kept safe. Staff recruitment practices remained safe. There were enough staff with the right levels of knowledge, skills, and experience to meet people’s needs and keep them safe from avoidable harm. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Staff were valued, supported, and received all the relevant training they needed to perform their roles and responsibilities well.
The registered manager was supportive and open to suggestions and advice on how to improve governance systems. Staff told us the management team were supportive and encouraged them to always speak up and report things. Staff felt supported, empowered and able to speak up when needed.
