Our view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 13 June 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had systems to identify internal risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

The Second Floor Dental Practice is in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and a lift was available in the building. Paid on-street car parking spaces were available, including parking for disabled people.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms, of which one was used for storage. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 7 staff, of which there were 2 dentists, 3 qualified dental nurses, 1 trainee dental nurse and 1 dental hygienist. Reception and administration duties were covered by the dental nurses. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including the principal dentist, 2 dental nurses and the dental hygienist.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 33 patients. Patient feedback provided an overall positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included:

“Excellent care and treatment;” “dentists with integrity;” “long standing NHS dentists;”

“The staff work very well as a team and are all very approachable” and “we are so fortunate that we have clinical staff who understand and recognise the importance of early referral.”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness with one patient quoting that “the practice is maintained to a very high standard; going above and beyond with cleanliness.”

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients stated that they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources. One feedback we received commented that the clinician “is extremely professional, extremely polite and offers brilliant advice. They always found a solution to my problems and has provided a range of options.”

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
