Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 11 May 2026. Asplands Medical Practice is a GP practice and delivers services to approximately 12,800 people under a contract held with NHS England. The service operates across two sites: Asplands Medical Centre and a branch site Woburn Surgery. Although based at separate sites, both sites functioned as one integrated service, with shared systems, processes, and governance arrangements. Both sites were supported by on‑site dispensaries, which operated under the same governance processes. According to the latest available data, the ethnic make-up of the service area is approximately 86% White, 6% Asian, 3% Mixed, 4% Black and 1% Other. Information published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows deprivation within the service population group is in the 9 decile (9 of 10). Where 1 represents the most deprived and 10 the least deprived. This was a focused assessment. We undertook this assessment due to the length of time since our last assessment. We assessed 10 quality statements from across all 5 key questions. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report. The service delivered safe, effective, caring, responsive and well‑led care across both sites. Environments were maintained, and systems were in place to monitor risks and ensure patient safety, supported by adequate numbers of staff. Staff supported people to live healthier lives, monitoring their care and treatment to ensure they received positive and consistent outcomes. Staff treated people with kindness and compassion, providing person‑centred care and responded to individual needs. Access was managed through multiple routes, helping to improve accessibility and reduce inequalities. People could contact the service in a variety of ways, including by telephone, online consultation systems available 24 hours a day, and in person at reception. Appointments could be booked in advance, on the day, or through triage systems to ensure people were directed to the most appropriate clinician. Home visits were also arranged where needed for people unable to attend the surgery. These flexible access options, supported by effective governance and a strong culture of shared learning, enabled the service to continuously improve services and deliver care that met the needs of its patient population.

People's experience of this service

As part of our assessment, we considered feedback from people who used the service to understand their views and experiences of care. This included speaking with people at the time of the inspection and reviewing other sources of feedback available to us. People shared positive views about the quality of care and treatment they received. They described staff as kind, compassionate, and respectful, and told us their privacy and dignity were maintained.

Feedback was consistent with the findings of recent patient surveys, including the 2025 National GP Patient Survey, which showed that most people were satisfied with the service and the care provided. People spoke positively about staff attitudes, communication, and the support they received.

The service had an active and engaged Patient Participation Group (PPG) that represented the views of people using the service. PPG representatives told us they felt listened to and described how leaders had made positive changes in response to patient feedback. This demonstrated that the service valued people’s views and used feedback to drive improvement.
