During a routine inspection
Patients we spoke with confirmed they had sufficient time during the consultation and that treatment was explained to them. We saw detailed and up to date records of the checks made regarding emergency drugs and equipment, to ensure they were available for use.
The practice had an infection control policy and guidelines, which provided staff with important information regarding infection prevention and control. Training records showed staff had received infection control training in 2013. Staff we spoke with were knowledgeable about the procedures in place to maintain hygiene standards.
We looked at two personnel files and found the Practice Manager had carried out checks to show the applicants were suitable for the posts and eligible to work in the UK. The practice offered all staff annual appraisals. A comprehensive assessment of health care assistants' competencies to carry out their work was completed annually and was part of their appraisal.
The practice had systems to identify, assess and manage risks related to the service. The practice kept a log of significant events, incidents and accidents including actions taken.
