Equity in access

Score: 3

The service made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.

The service performed better than national averages in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people could access the service when they needed it in a way that suited their needs, such as by telephone, in person or through the service’s website. For example, 63.3% of respondents to the survey responded positively to how easy it was to contact the practice on the phone, compared to a national average of 53%. Also,60% of respondents stated said they get to speak to their preferred healthcare professional, compared to a national average of 40%.

Treatment rooms were available on the ground floor, and a ramp and automatic door had been fitted to the entrance to ensure ease of access to the service. The practice was not open on weekends, but patients could book appointments with the local primary care network hubs, which operated weekday evenings and weekends.

Staff told us the recruitment of a phlebotomist meant that patients no longer had to travel to the local hospital for blood tests. The practice also hosted a range of clinics such as stop-smoking, obesity, health check, travel, ante-natal and minor surgery.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. They tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.

Staff treated people equally and without discrimination. Leaders proactively sought ways to address any barriers to improving people’s experience and worked with local services, including within the voluntary sector, to address any local health inequalities. Leaders understood the importance of providing an inclusive approach to care and made adjustments to support equity in people’s experience and outcomes. For example, they told us that having multi-lingual team addressed potential language barriers for people seeking to access care and treatment. This was also reflected in positive patient feedback on how staff removed barriers to treatment; including supporting patients who experienced difficulty using digital services. Staff followed processes to ensure people could register at the service, including those in vulnerable circumstances such as homeless people and Travellers.
